NASCAR Xfinity: qualifying cancellation puts Kyle Larson on pole at Charlotte

Rain from Hurricane Matthew at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway forced cancellation of all on-track activity on Friday, including NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying for the Drive for the Cure 300. The race, originally scheduled for Friday night, has been rescheduled for an 11 a.m. ET Sunday start.
With qualifying cancelled, the starting grid for Sunday’s race was set by speeds from the final of two practice sessions on Thursday, putting NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular Kyle Larson on the pole, and Xfinity Series championship contender Erik Jones alongside on the front row.
Forty-three drivers were on the entry list for the Charlotte race, so three drivers were sent packing without getting the opportunity to make a qualifying attempt. Among the three drivers left on the outside looking in were Sprint Cup regular Matt DiBenedetto and Cole Custer, who was slated to drive a fourth entry for JR Motorsports. Ryan Ellis also was left without a spot on the starting grid.
