Riley Herbst and his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team were penalized Aug. 28, prior to the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway for improperly attached ballast (weight) on the race car.

In addition to in-race penalties such as dropping to the back for the initial green flag and serving a pit-road, pass-through penalty at the start of the race, Herbst was docked 10 driver points and the team lost 10 owner points.

Herbst recovered from the in-race penalties to finish fourth at Daytona. He is 10th in the driver points standings, 70 points behind ninth-place driver Brandon Jones and 56 points ahead of 11th-place driver Ryan Sieg after 22 races. Four races remain in the regular season, and 12 drivers will advance to the playoffs.
