NASCAR Xfinity: Nelson Piquet Jr. returns to NASCAR for Mid-Ohio
By AMANDA VINCENT
Nelson Piquet Jr. will return to the NASCAR landscape Aug. 13 for the Xfinity Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington. He’ll be behind the wheel of the No. 98 Ford for Biagi-DenBeste Racing.
“NASCAR has been a huge part of my career, and it is one of the best championships I’ve ever raced in,” Piquet said. “My first top-tier NASCAR victory was at a road course, at Road America, and so I’m grateful to Biagi-DenBeste for giving me another road course opportunity. The Xfinity Series is seriously competitive, so I’m looking forward to getting there and seeing what we can do.”
Piquet’s win at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., in 2012 made him the first Brazilian to win a race in a NASCAR national series . He also has two-career Camping World Truck Series wins, both coming in 2012. Piquet last raced in NASCAR in 2014, running at Watkins Glen (N.Y) Internaitonal in the Sprint Cup Series. His last NASCAR race at Mid-Ohio was in 2013 when he piloted an entry for the now-defunct Turner Motorsports in the Nationwide (now-Xfinity Series).
Most recently, Piquet has competed in the FIA Fomula E Championship, World Endurance Championship and Global Rally Championship.
