Newman, Mears docked practice time at Pocono

By AMANDA VINCENT

The No. 13 Germain Racing team and driver Casey Mears and the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing team and driver Ryan Newman in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series were docked 15 minutes of track time during opening practice Friday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., in preparation for Sunday’s Windows 10 400. The two teams also received written warnings for issues during last weekend’s activities at Indianapolis Motor Speedway that culminated in Sunday’s running of the Crown Royal Presents the Jeff Kyle 400 at the Brickyard, also known as the Brickyard 400.

The No. 13 team penalty came as a result of difficulty getting through the qualifying inspection process.

The No. 31 team was penalized because it required too many trips through pre-race inspection. Also, the No. 31 team had a window issue during qualifying at Indianapolis that resulted in Newman starting the Brickyard 400 last after his qualifying time was disallowed.
