NHRA: Tim Wilkerson Keep Things in Perspective at Reading
Tim Wilkerson finished Friday with the 13th quickest run in the Funny Car class, but with the rules as they are he might as well have stayed at the hotel. Since only the top 12 times are recorded, Wilk and five others will start Saturday with no official time on the board, as if they had skipped the day completely.
Wilk managed a 4.150 in Q1, running wire to wire but only quickly enough for the 9th spot after one. Admittedly “going for it” on the second pass, he looked to be on a strong one but surprisingly spun the tires well down track.
“On the first one we just didn’t get the clutch right and it was slow, but on the second one I thought it was going to make it, and I was really surprised when it pulled the tires loose,” Wilk said. “It was definitely an aggressive tune-up, but the track was holding quicker runs than we were trying to make. We’ll just have to make some adjustments and get up as high as we can tomorrow.
“We knew this was going to be the best day, weather wise, so now we’re at the mercy of Mother Nature and the clouds. I’ll tell you what, we all complain about the weather forecasters but you need a crystal ball in this part of the world. These fronts do some goofy things when they get over here, so we’ll see. We’ll stay positive.”
