The No. 4 JD Motorsports Chevrolet team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series was penalized by NASCAR on Tuesday for a rules infraction committed May 16 at Iowa Speedway in Newton as teams prepared for the May 17 3M 250 Xfinity Series race at the track.
A piece of lead from the No. 4 car, driven by Ross Chastain, flew out of the car and flew into the No. 55 car driven by Jamie Dick, hitting Dick’s helmet during a practice session on Saturday. Dick was uninjured.
“On behalf of myself and everybody at JD Motorsports, I want to aplogize to Jamie and everyone at Viva Motorsports. Words don’t mean much now but I’ll do everything I can to make this right and changes will be made on our end. Right now I’m just glad my friend is alright.” — Ross Chastain (@RossChastain) tweeted after the incident Saturday.
