Richard Petty Motorsports suspends Xfinity Series program

Richard Petty Motorsports has suspended its NASCAR Xfinity Series program, according to an announcement from RPM on Wednesday. The team fielding the No. 43 Ford in Xfinity competition for Jeb Burton. With the announcement, the race team cited missed payments to the team from sponsor J. Streicher as the reason for the program suspension. Richard Petty Motorsports also fields two cars in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition — the No. 43 Ford for driver Aric Almirola and the No. 44 Ford for Brian Scott. The Sprint Cup teams are, presumably, unaffected.

“This is an unfortunate situation,” Richard Petty Motorsports CEO Brian Moffitt said. “We make commitments to both our employees and vendors that are based on sponsor commitments, and we take those commitments seriously. We will pursue every avenue to ensure the contractual obligations between RPM and our sponsor are met. We’ll take each week as it comes and do our best to get the No. 43 Ford Mustang on track as much as possible this season.”
