Stewart-Haas Racing confirmed on Monday that Brian Vickers would be the fill-in driver for the injured Tony Stewart behind the wheel of the No. 14 SHR Chevrolet for Sunday’s Auto Club 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Stewart, meanwhile, continues to recover from a fractured L1 vertebra sustained Jan. 31 in an all-terrain vehicle accident.

To this point in 2016, with the ACS race being the fifth race on the Sprint Cup schedule, Vickers and Xfinity Series regular Ty Dillon have shared driving duties of the No. 14. In the first four races of the season, Vickers has been behind the wheel for two events — the season-opening Daytona 500 and at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He finished 26th at Daytona and 36th at Vegas.

According to Monday’s announcement from Stewart-Haas, a driver schedule beyond Fontana has not been finalized.

For the Auto Club Speedway race, Vickers will bring his own sponsor along. This year’s race marks the third-straight year in which the driver has partnered with Janssen in honor of Blood Clot Awareness Month in an effort to raise awareness of blood clots. It’s an issue Vickers had dealt with, himself, being sidelined multiple times because of clots. The paint scheme on the car for Sunday’s race will feature Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation, the foundation of Janssen partner and golfing legend Arnold Palmer.
