Talladega Superspeedway long has been known for producing surprise, first-time winners in all three of NASCAR’s national series. This weekend could see it happen again. There are no shortages of favorites to get their first win. Parker Kligerman was a surprise first-time winner in last year’s race. Can Miguel Paludo, German Quiroga or Darrell Wallace Jr. score their first win or will Kligerman be able to defend his victory?
Kligerman returns and will attempt to become the first driver since his current NASCAR Nationwide Series boss, Kyle Busch, to win back-to-back races at Talladega Superspeedway and the third overall. Todd Bodine won in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
While Kligerman is the only truck competitor to score his first win at the famed Alabama track, there have been several first-time winners in NASCAR other two national series. If any of the aforementioned truck regulars were to pick up a win, it would not be a total surprise based on their performances this season.
Paludo has collected a career-best second-place finish at Pocono in August and has scored four of his eight career top-five finishes this season. Quiroga has a pole this season and has finished third twice. Wallace also has a pole in 2013 and has finished in the top five in three of the past four races entering this weekend.
