Ty Dillon runs Sprint Cup race at Kansas

By AMANDA VINCENT

Ty Dillon will join brother Austin Dillon for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition Saturday night at Kansas Speedway near Kansas Speedway for the SpongeBob SquarePants 400. Ty Dillon will drive the No. 33 Chevrolet. The No. 33 is normally fielded by Circle Sport, but Dillon will be in the car through a partnership with Richard Childress Racing.

The Kansas race will be Dillon’s fourth-career Sprint Cup Series start and his second of the season. His first of the year came in the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February.

Dillon’s current regular gig is driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He holds the points lead after last weekend’s race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. In the nine Xfinity races, so far, this season, Dillon has three top-fives and seven top-10 finishes.

Dillon’s No. 33 will be among several cars in the field that will have SpongeBob characters on their cars as part of their paint schemes. The No. 33 will have Plankton along for the ride.

“I grew up watching episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants on Nickelodeon, so you can imagine it’s pretty cool to have Plankton on our Chevrolet SS,” Dillon said. “The NASCAR community is fortunate to have such a great partner in Nickelodeon for this weekend and to utilize our sport in its activation plans. Nickelodeon is all about kids and having fun, and I look forward to having some fun with the Nickelodeon characters and their guests at the race track this weekend.”
