The NASCAR Xfinity Series will run a high-drag rules package in the Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday. NASCAR’s goal with the new package is to encourage drafting and create pack racing similar to that seen at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
“From our perspective, the high-drag package that’s going to be implemented in both the Xfinity and (Sprint) Cup Series, hopefully the ability of the cars to draft a little bit for that second or chased pack to be able to catch the leader,” NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell told NASCAR.com.
The package for Indianapolis includes a spoiler that us two inches taller than normal in height. The normal Xfinity Series spoiler has two-inch extensions at either end, but the spoiler at Indianapolis will be two inches taller all the way across. The Indy package also includes a rear bumper cover usually reserved for use at the superspeedways of Daytona and Talladega. That bumper cover includes a three-inch extension.
